Interview with Chicago Children's Author Stenetta Anthony

Thank you for joining us today, Stenetta. Is there a story behind your book The Love Story?
Yes. Several years ago, my church’s nursery department, request that staff develop a curriculum which focuses on a specific biblical character of our choice. The person I chose was Jesus. After writing the story which was to be included in the curriculum, I read the children’s story to a friend, who then inquired, “Where I had purchased The Love Story.” Sharing that I had written the story myself, they suggested I have it published.

Question: What started you on your writing journey?
I was often mentally writing stories, but never taking the step to having one officially released for publication. After some encouragement from a friend I began my writing journey. Now stories which were kept locked up inside my head, have begun to be documented on paper, computer or whatever; writing utilize/paper is available at the time.

Question: What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I like to read all types of books from: comics to biography. However, my favorite books to read are: murder or mystery series. When reading these genres of novels, I find myself often trying to solve the case, sometimes skipping to the end of the book, to obtain a clue. I love a good mystery.

Hey...I love to read mystery stories too. I also try to solve the case before the reveal at the end!
Question: What is the quirkiest thing you have ever done?
The oddest thing I’ve done is riding an elephant. My children and I were attending a local festival were this carnival was offering elephant’s ride. Prompted by my children I got on the elephant, and had the experience of a lifetime. The animal trainer had the elephant stand on his back legs, then raising his trunk.  I felt like I was going to fall to the ground. Riding on this huge mammal was a fun but strange experience. Not sure if present this opportunity again I would do it.

Now that is interesting! Giggle.
Question: What is your favorite season of the year?
Living in the Midwest you experience all four seasons: winter, spring, summer and fall. All these seasons bring something different with them and can be enjoyed. However, the one I enjoy the most is the summertime. During the summer months you can engage in some any outdoor activities; festivals, barbecues, outdoor concerts, going to the zoo and so many more. I probably like summer the most, because I was born in the summertime.

Question: What is a favorite memory from your childhood?
My favorite childhood memory is when I would sit on the porch with my neighborhood friends on Monday evenings. This was a special time, because everyone would show-off their favorite talent, one of which I enjoyed the most was a brother singing duo, who would often sing; Rainy Days and Mondays, by the Carpenters. Even today when I reflect sitting on the front porch during that time it brings a smile to my face. Good Times.

Question: Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?
My favorite travel place is any island in Hawaii. This is such a beautiful place with all the palm trees and beautiful scenery. Being on one of islands helps me to relax, were I can look at the ocean for hours.

Question: Where do you escape for some quiet time to reflect, pray, read, etc?
I have two places I escape too for my quiet time. One is my basement and the other a neighbor park where I can sit by the pond. These two places help me to quiet myself, so I can; pray, read, think and write books.

Question: When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
My next book is currently in the editing process and should be released later this year.  It is a different from The Love Story.  However, there is a message in the story. It is about boys who is discouraged by his life mistakes, were he decides to make a drastic change. It’s a fun book.

I love to solve the mystery before the end of the book, too, Sennetta! And when I was a kid we would go to the Farmers Market and buy a dozen watermelons. For a week all the kids in the neighborhood gathered at my house in the evening to eat them. You should've seen the seed spitting contests. lol
Your book looks great and I'd love to win it. pat at ptbradley dot com

I'd like this for our granddaughter. She is 9 months old. Her parents don't tell her anything about Jesus, so I believe God has given me the job, as I care for her 5 days a week. sm wileygreen1(at)yahoo(dot)com

Hello anonymous,

I also have quite a few grandchildren, who keep me busy when they visit; especially during the summer months.
