Is there a story behind your book, Navy SEAL Noel?
I introduced Will Gumble in my book, A Promise to Protect, two years ago. He’s one of those characters who just wouldn’t let me go. He was funny and had a terrible habit of putting his foot in his mouth, and I loved him right away. I couldn’t wait to tell his story, and when I finally did get to, I discovered his match in Jess. Their story was such a fun one to write, and I loved digging in even deeper to the men of SEAL team fifteen.
What distracts you from writing the easiest?
I’m easily distracted. When I’m in a coffee shop, I find myself people watching. When I’m at home, TV, twitter, and Facebook seem to be calling my name. And when I’m on deadline, even cleaning sounds fun!
What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I love historical fiction and contemporary fiction and nonfiction and pretty much whatever I can find. Recently I finished The Grave Robber by Mark Batterson, a nonfiction book about how Jesus makes the impossible possible. It was an amazing study of the miracles of Jesus recorded in the book of John. Katherine Reay’s Dear Mr. Knightley was one of my favorite reads last year, and I’m looking forward to her new novel, Lizzy & Jane, this fall.
If you were a style of music, what style would you be?
Right now I’d be a Christmas carol, full of fun and joy and remembering what this season is all about. I just adore the holidays.
What is your favorite season of the year?
I love the fall, as the weather turns cool and the trees light up with red and yellow leaves. I love football and hot apple cider and snuggling under a blanket to read. And I love that it leads up to Christmas and time with family and friends.
Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?
Washing my car! I’m not sure why, but I have a mild car wash phobia. Is that a real thing? Well, maybe not officially diagnosed. But I’m afraid of getting stuck in my car in the middle of that soapy, sudsy octopus. So I let my car get just about as dirty as I can handle before I venture into cleaning beast. Of course, every time I do, it’s just fine. Nothing terrible ever happens. My car is cleaner. I’m happy. Everything is fine. Until my car starts getting dirty again.
Share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you.
Recently a friend was going through a very difficult time in her life. It was my privilege to walk through that time with her. On the hardest days, the number 828 seemed to pop up all around me. In the change from a purchase. The flight number on a recent excursion. The time on my clock as I duck out the door. 828 seemed to be everywhere. It’s been reminding me of Romans 8:28, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” That’s the best promise I can think of during hard times.
When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
My next book is the first in a contemporary romance series set on
favorite place in the world. It’s due out in early 2016, and I’m eagerly
working on it right now. Prince Edward Island
