Book Trailer:

“Come on,” her older brother Kent said one frosty Sunday afternoon. “Get dressed. We’re all going out.”
“I don’t want to go. I want to read.” Danute admired Kent, four years older than her, because he was almost grown and could do what he pleased, But, she resented him telling her what to do.
“Danute, come on. You can read later, after it gets dark. You can’t see the beauty of the snow in the dark or with your nose in a book. I want to show you something. Before long the snow will be gone and you won’t have seen it. Don’t I always show you good things? Come on. I’m older, do as I say.”
“I’ll come, but not because you said so. Because I decided,” she said. They piled on their coats, scarves, hats, and mittens and followed Kent. The street was slushy and the sun was peeking out from fluffy clouds, warm and shining. It did seem as if winter was trying to say goodbye. Perhaps spring came early here in Simikaiiai. They heard the drip, drop of the melt on the roofs. Stomping their boots, they squirted gray slush at each other. They followed Kent to the Naminous River which flowed through the town in the summer. In the winter the river lay frozen and silver, completely silent. Today, it couldn’t decide. Part of the frozen river was beginning to move. The ice was wet and shiny. It looked like a jigsaw puzzle falling apart one piece at a time.

“Come on,” called Kent. He leaped off the snowy bank onto a large ice floe that hadn’t yet unlocked.
