A Warm Welcome to Deanna Klingel

Is there a story behind Rock and a Hard Place, A Lithuanian Love Story?

Yes, there is a story. The couple I write about are friends from our church. They are in their 80’s and I was fascinated with their story.

If you were a style of music, what style would you be?

I’d be folk dancing music. I just can’t sit still when I hear it. I love it. It’s colorful in the way the folk dancers’ clothing is colorful. I want to be able to swirl and stomp to the folk dancing music. I want to wear flowers in my hair and clap my hands.

What is the quirkiest thing you have ever done?

For several years I competed in Canine Freestyle. That means I danced with my dogs.

What makes you laugh out loud?

Carol Burnett, Harvey Korman, Tim Conway. I can watch the same sketches a hundred times and I’ll laugh every time. They are just the funniest.

What is your favorite season of the year?

I like the autumn. The smells, the crispness, the winding down of the year, the colors. It’s kind of like bedtime when my children were little. It’s a settle down time.

What is a favorite memory from your childhood?

Spending nights at my grandma’s house. She only lived two blocks away, but it was still exciting. She let me drink hot tea, and taught me how to piece a quilt.

Has some place you have traveled inspired something in your writing?

Actually, my blog is about my travels selling books. I’m on the road almost every weekend selling books and meeting people. I go to a lot of Civil War reenactments with my middle grade Civil War books and present at museums and schools. Then I write about what I learned on those trips about marketing.

Share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you.

I Corinthians 13 is special to me. Fifty two years ago Dave and I chose this for our wedding reading. I will never tire of hearing the description of love.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it? Do you have other books in the works?

The next book due out is a picture book titled Amanda and the Lazy Garden Fairy. It’ll be along in April, I believe. It’s got some great illustrations by Steve Daniels and a fun surprise ending that I hope will leave little listeners in giggles. I do have others in the works. I don’t have a work in progress at the moment, just having finished up with Rock and a Hard Place, Beth’s Birds which came out in March, and Amanda coming in April. But I have other finished works that are out shopping for publishers. They are all middle grade and YA. Thanks for asking.

I think Rock and a Hard Place will be very good as it comes from the story of an 80 year old couple in your church. Love to win it! sharon wileygreen1(at)yahoo(dot)com

This book by Deanna sounds like it will really keep your attention. And, I like it being influenced by a couple staying together so many years. This would be a first for me of Deanna's books. Please put my name in. Maxie mac262(at)me(dot)com
