Nebraska Author Angela D. Meyer

Welcome to the Barn Door Book Loft, Angela! Is there a story behind your book Where Hope Starts?

When I was younger, I often visited with my sisters about what was in our growing up that influenced who we were and how we behaved. I grew to understand how necessary forgiveness is for us to be and experience all that God has in store for us. The forgiveness and the idea that God has plans for each of us were two of the main things I wanted to communicate in my book.

What distracts you from writing the easiest?

My family. My “office” is in the middle of the living room and it is easy for everyone to forget I’m working and come to me to chat or to get assistance on something. Or it just gets noisy with life going on and it’s hard to concentrate.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Any genre as long as it’s well written with an intriguing story line and characters I care about. One of my favorite authors is Francine Rivers. She is actually one of the authors who inspires me the most in my writing. Her series The Mark of the Lion is my favorite that she has written.

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote?

Joanna, the sister of my main character, Karen. Joanna is complex. Sort of a rough character, but hurting and in need of God’s grace. She is strong, even if she is messed up and I like that about her. She actually takes center stage in book 2.

What is your favorite season of the year?

Fall. The crispness in the air, the colors and the smells are some of my favorite things about the season.

What do you like most about the area where you live and/or grew up?

Sunsets. They’re gorgeous in Oklahoma where I grew up, but I didn’t fully appreciate that until I lived elsewhere for a while.

Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?

Talking on the phone and asking people for help. Both of these things I am being challenged in as I market my book. I find God has a way of pulling us out of our weaknesses so we can see His strength.

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?
God’s grace and redemption in the middle of our messes. Also, I like to write about forgiveness.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?

Book 2 in the Applewood Hill series is at my publisher for review, so there is no date set for its release, yet. Book 2 continues the story of Karen Marino’s siblings and God’s work in their lives.
