A Warm Welcome to Norma Downing

Is there a story behind your book, A Promise Made?
I have always been interested in historical romance. It is one of my favorite genres. There isn’t really a reason that I wrote this particular story, but I did want my reader’s to see how the characters grew in their relationship to God and to each other.

What started you on your writing journey?
I have always loved reading and have had an active imagination. I enjoyed making up stories as I played “house” with friends growing up. Eventually I started writing stories and that continued as I became an adult.

What distracts you from writing the easiest?
My family and other responsibilities distract me the most. I enjoy writing and it is fun to me. I guess because it is something I enjoy I feel like I need to take care of other responsibilities before I have “fun”. I need to get my chores done before I can play. I am trying to work on that, because writing is actually work.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I enjoy historical romance as I have mentioned, but I enjoy other genres as well. I love a good mystery or suspense also. I just finished reading Julie Klassen’s book, The Tutor’s Daughter.  It was a wonderfully writing historical with elements of mystery, suspense, and of course, romance. Truthfully, I have enjoyed all of the books by Julie that I have read.

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote? Why?
I think Emily interested me the most in this book. I could see the struggles that she had to deal with and I could actually see her growing and maturing in the decisions she had to make. She evolved as a character even without much thought on my part.

What makes you smile and/or laugh out loud?
My animals make me smile a lot. I got a miniature horse for my birthday last year. I have always wanted a horse and my dream came true last year, and it was a complete surprise. She was just 9 months old and over the last year I have really seen her personality develop. She makes me smile with some of the things that she does and the “attitude” that she displays.
What is your favorite season of the year?
I love spring. I like all the different seasons, but spring is my favorite. I love seeing the trees turn green and the days get warmer after the cold days of winter.

Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?
I like going to the Outer Banks for vacation. When our children were young finances didn’t allow us to take many vacations. Now that they are older we went to the Outer Banks several times for family vacations and it was very enjoyable.

What do you want to accomplish with your writing?

My goal is not to make a million dollars or even be on the best seller list. I want to glorify God with my writing and entertain readers. I would like them to remember my book and think “Wow, that was good.”

Back Cover

After her parents are killed in a wagon accident, Emily Wallace feels as if she is all alone on the farm in Kansas.  She discovers Drew Harris, her father’s right hand man who has been like an older brother to her for ten years, has made a promise to her dying father to find her a Godly husband. It becomes apparent they have feelings for each other. Even though she feels she is ready for this, Emily needs to mature and seek God’s will before she can have a relationship. Drew must overcome issues from his past before he can feel he is the man Emily’s father had in mind. Will they both come to realize they need to look to God for guidance and direction if they wish to have a future together?

Thanks for having Norma for a guest today. I don't know her yet but hope to win her book and get to know her. I like toe cover of her book and the topic I find very interesting. I respect that you homeschool Norma. One of my granddaughters is homeschooling and she has 5 children The oldest is 10. # are in school. I'm glad I have no kids in school these days. But worry about my grandchildren who do go to the public schools. Not a good place anymore like it used to be. Please put my name in for a chance to win this book.

This sounds like a book I would enjoy and I lived in Kansas for several years so that makes it more interesting. I like reading books that take place in areas I'm familiar with.
