A Warm Welcome to Katy Lee!

It's my pleasure to welcome Katy Lee to the Barn Door Book Loft today!

Is there a story behind your book Warning Signs?
Every story starts somewhere. A news article that sparks an idea. A person you meet on an airplane. Or maybe even an experience from your past that changed you. Warning Signs flew from my fingers when I received word that I was invited to pitch a story to the Love Inspired editors last year in 2012. I knew exactly the story I wanted to share. I used to work with children with hearing impairments. I learned to allow them to show me what they could do before I made the assumption that they couldn’t. Warning Signs is a way for me to pass this valuable lesson on.

What started you on your writing journey?
I was asked a question from the gentleman sitting next to me on a cross-country flight that then set the “what if” wheels in motion for my first book Real Virtue. Since then, I have kept asking what if, and my stories keep coming.

What distracts you from writing the easiest?
Research. I am a reader and love to learn new things every day. I can get lost in the details. In fact, in college I took one of those personality tests, where a set of questions determine your identity. There were nine to choose from…or rather, I should say label you. I REALLY wanted “The Artist- A person who seeks beauty in life.” I got “The Researcher- A person who is determined to understand.” At first, I was pretty upset. Then I figured this was good. Because now I could research how to find beauty in life, and I know I will succeed in understanding.

What is your strangest habit?
Sometimes when I read back my manuscript out loud, I read it in a British accent. Don’t know why. I don’t write regencies. I write romantic suspense. “Well, that is just downright mad. Mad, I say!”

Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?
Anywhere. I love to travel, and am so happy my children do, too. There is a whole world out there to see and learn from. I look forward to exploring it with them.

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?
Finding your identity…and I’m not talking about a test this time. I’m talking about finding the person God sees when he looks at you. The person without all the worldly baggage that creates negatives in our minds and lives. Christ paid for all of that, and it all died with Him. He came back to life. The baggage didn’t. I like to create characters who learn what this means for them, and then start living in their Heavenly identity.

Where do you escape for some quiet time to reflect, pray, read, etc?
In the bleachers at the pool. My kids are swimmers, and that gives God hours to work with me. He’s still not done yet.

Share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you. (and why it's special)
James 1:2-7

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

I pray never to be double-minded and unstable and to always believe. And so, I look forward to the blessings of wisdom God will give me.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
Ooh, I’m so excited to share with you that my next book with LIS will release May 2014. My heroine is a Forensic Anthropologist and a skeleton has been unearthed on Stepping Stones Island. The sheriff may have some explaining to do.

Thank you for having me as your guest! May God bless you abundantly.

I'd love to take that personality test -- I think I would also be a researcher. I'm always asking why, which I found out was a threat to the plumber, the electrician, the home improvement contractor -- they definitely do not want to be asked "Why?" Please enter me to my name to win a copy of "Warning Signs." djragno (at) hotmail (dot) com

Hello ladies,

Thank you for your comments! I hope you enjoy Warning Signs.

And yes, God's world is so very beautiful. There is so much to see. One of my favorite National Parks is the Badlands in South Dakota. So amazing and different and out of this world. :)
