Mississippi Author, Lorraine Beatty

Hello Lorraine! Thank you for joining us and congratulations on your latest Love Inspired book.

Is there a story behind your book Restoring His Heart?

I got the idea from a song. The lyrics were about a guy who had experienced all these extreme adventures – heli-skiiing, skydiving, climbing mountains, but he’d never experienced the kind of thrill being in love gave him. I thought it would be a fun idea to put a rich, directionless adventurer in the middle of a small town in Mississippi and put him with a down-to-earth, woman who valued faith and family.

What started you on your writing journey?

I loved to read, but sometimes I’d be disappointed in certain parts of the book so I would rewrite them.

Let's have some fun. If you were a style of music, what style would you be?

The big bands of the 30s and 40s.

What makes you smile and/or laugh out loud?

My grandchildren. They are a never ending source of entertainment and chuckles.

There's nothing like being a grandmother! What is your favorite season of the year?

Spring. I wish is would last forever. I love the flowers and the warm weather.

What do you like most about the area where you live?

The weather. Mississippi is free of snow, and the winters are short. I love summer.

What is a favorite memory from your childhood?

Sitting in a big old tree, with an apple and a book to read. Usually it was a Nancy Drew mystery.

Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?

Cruising to the Caribbean or Disney World. DW without kids is a whole different experience. Cruising is just relaxing to the max.

Where do you escape for some quiet time to reflect, pray, read, etc?

Either on one of my swings – I have two. One on the patio and one in a swing house at the back of the yard.
Could you share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you?
Romans 12:12  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. It saw me through some difficult times.
What kind of hero do you most enjoy writing?

That’s easy. The lost soul. The guy who has had a difficult childhood or a major trauma in his life and is looking for his place in the world. When he finds his faith then he’s ready to win the woman he loves.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?

My next book is actually a novella in a contemporary Christmas collection from Barbour Publishing.  The book is Plantation Christmas Weddings. My story is Christmas at Monmouth. The stories take place in four different plantations in Natchez, Mississippi. The cool thing about this collection is that the four stories are all from authors in my local writers group. We all had fun going to Natchez, (it’s only a couple hours away) and visiting the plantations. I even got to meet the owners of Monmouth Inn.

That sounds like fun. Thanks for sharing with us today!

I loved getting to know a little bit about you! I also would rewrite parts of stories that I didn't like as a child (I still do as an adult -only in my head and not on paper). The Nancy Drew Mysteries were one of my favorite chapter book series. I have such fond memories of my Dad and I reading and discussing them together. They always bring a smile to my face and I can't wait to share and read those books with my children. :)
Thanks for the interview!
