An Interview with Sherry Kyle

Is there a story behind The Heart Stone?
I’ve always been fascinated with jewelry, especially antique jewelry. I thought it would be interesting to write a novel where a heart-shaped diamond ring was the object that tied two women’s stories together. I do mention another piece of jewelry in the story that I personally own. I also purchased it from the store I wrote about in the book.

What’s the last thing you wrote?
Content for my new website.

What’s the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
A book titled My Special Someone that my older daughter and I wrote and illustrated about the adoption of my youngest child, Grace, in 2002.
What’s your favorite genre of writing?
I love writing books for 8-12 year old girls, as well as Women’s Fiction.
Do you type or write by hand? Computer? Typewriter? Legal pad?
I mostly write on my laptop, but have been known to jot down notes on a small notebook I keep in my purse.

What’s one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Fantasy or Supernatural Thrillers
How many writing projects are you working on right now?
I have several novels and a girl’s book that I’ve started and can’t decide which one to pursue.
Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
Definitely. I have to push aside the inner editor when I write so that I allow the words to flow. Otherwise, I stop and fix my mistakes, losing my train of thought.
Where do you most like to write?
I like to write on my laptop, sitting my couch in the family room with my feet up on an ottoman.
Does music help you write?
No. I like it quiet.
How do you find the time to write?
I make time when my four kids are in school.
When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
My next book is The Girl’s Guide to Your Dream Room by Legacy Press, and it’s set to release this summer.
Tween girls will discover all the basics of an extreme makeover, such as design, organization and decoration of their personal space. The Girl’s Guide to Your Dream Room is filled with stories, crafts, activities, quizzes and tips that will help girls not only redo their bedroom but also have an extreme makeover on the inside too.
