A Warm Welcome to Laura Hilton

We're so glad you joined us today, Laura!

What started you on your writing journey?
I always wanted to be a writer – ever since I was old enough to read. I used to write all the time – but none of those stories will ever see the light of day. J

What distracts you from writing the easiest?
Stress. When life happens and everything goes wrong, the septic tank overflows, the kids are fighting, the car breaks down. And when it all happens at once?

Me, too. What kind of books do you enjoy reading? (Book recommendations very welcome!)
I love anything as long as it grabs my attention. Irene Hannon, Dani Petrey’s and Lynette Eason’s suspense. Neta Jackson’s women’s fiction. Kelly Long, Beverly Lewis’, and Suzanne Woods Fisher’s Amish. Tricia Goyer’s WWII historicals – and so many more.

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote? Why? Troy and Janna both had a story to tell – as did Janna’s niece, Meghan. Meghan and Troy were both very secretive, not sharing the horrors of their past, so I was really intrigued by them. Janna was pretty open, an amazingly strong girl.

What is your favorite season of the year?
Believe it or not – Winter. I love snow. I love the biting cold that takes your breath away. And I miss it now that God set us in the sunny south.

Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?
No. I want to put them off, but I went through breast cancer treatments, and I learned that things are better if you face them head-on. But it do take a moment to find my strength and ask God for help before I do some things.

Good advice, Laura. Has some place you have traveled inspired something in your writing?
Yes, Seymour, Missouri is a real area with real Amish and some of the events in Surrendered Love really happened.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
The next book out is untitled right now, but with Whitaker House, waiting for their talent in deciding the actual title. It will release in September.

We'll be looking forward to it!
