Welcome David Walker to the Book Loft

Welcome to the Barn Door Book Loft, David! Is there a story behind your devotional book Heaven Sent

Yes. As leader of my Sunday school class for the last seven years, I read some bit of wisdom or humor gleaned from the internet to my class each week. I decided to pick the best of these and put those that were anonymous or for which I could get the author's permission into a book, along with my comments on each. Heaven Sent is the result.

What started you on your writing journey?

I wrote several novels years ago just for my own amusement. Then a few years ago I decided to join a writers' group and develop my skills. The desire to write both fiction and non-fiction grew from there.

What distracts you from writing the easiest?

My wife feels free to come in and ask a question or make a comment or otherwise break my concentration any time she takes a notion to. We've discussed this, but she can't seem to help herself.

Hmmm. I have the same problem with my husband. What kind of books do you enjoy reading?

Primarily mysteries and Westerns.

What makes you smile and/or laugh out loud?

Anything the least bit funny can make me roll in the floor. And I can laugh at myself as well as at others.

What is your favorite season of the year?

Fall, because our Texas 100-degree summer is finally over.

What do you like most about the area where you live and/or grew up?

For a city, it's friendly, but if my wife would agree, I'd move to a small West Texas town to get away from the traffic and humidity in Fort Worth.

Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?

Yes. I'm a world-class procrastinator.

Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?

Mountains in general, especially Montana and the Canadian Rockies.

Has some place where you have traveled inspired something in your writing?

Visit to Virginia City, NV, some years ago inspired the background for one of the novellas in my Fancy series.

What's your favorite meal with family and friends?

Extra rare rib-eye steak. Mmmmm!

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?

Lots of them. I blog on spiritual subjects every Tuesday at

Where do you escape for some quiet time to reflect, pray, read, etc?

 Early morning walks.

Do you have a scripture verse that's special to you?

Mt 6:33 - "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these other things [meeting physical/financial needs] will be added unto you." It keeps me reminded what my source is.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?

Next book is Fancy Goes West - Vol 4. This continues the story of Fancy, a 14 year-old girl facing life on her own after receiving word her father was killed in the Civil War. It's the 4th of 8 volumes and will be out in February of this year.
