A Warm Welcome to K Dawn Bryd

We're happy to welcome Dawn to our blog site today.

On to the interview: Is there a story behind your book Something Beautiful?

I've never been racist, but I see it often, living in the south as I do. I thought it would be fun to explore what would happen if a wealthy attorney's daughter fell in love with a Hispanic bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks. Something Beautiful was born.

Sounds fantastic! What started you on your writing journey?

I've always loved to read and I've always loved a challenge. I challenged myself to write the first book and fell in love with writing so much that I can't stop.

Sounds familiar. :) What distracts you from writing the easiest?

Noise, I must have total peace and quiet when I write.

What is your strangest habit?

I love office supplies. I go in the office supply store even if I don't need anything.

What makes you smile and/or laugh out loud?

My ferrets. I absolutely love them and you can never be in a bad mood with them around.

Oooo. They sound like fun. Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?

I hate to empty the dishwasher. I'd rather scrub the toilet.

LOL. I'd hate to say what my worst chore is. Where is your favorite place to travel/vacation in?

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. I go there at least once a year and most years, twice.Where do you escape for some quiet time to reflect, pray, read, etc? If I'm really trouble, I sit on the top step of the upper level of my house and pray. It just feels like I'm closer to God in that spot for some reason.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?

Hotline Girl, another young adult release, will be out in June. It's about a high school senior who is asked by her mother, who is the school counselor, to work the new school hotline for teens who need someone to talk to. She eventually figures out that they guy she's loved forever is the same mysterious guy that she fell in love with in the hotline chat room. She's come to know some personal things about him and his family and she's given him advice on his relationship with his girlfriend. When he starts to fall for her, she wonders if he'll want her when he figures out who she really is...the somewhat unpopular geeky girl who's never had a date.

We'll be looking for it!

I think racism will always be around even if we like to think we have gotten past it as a country.
Sounds like an interesting read!

Are we really not racist? i don't think i am, but sometimes i wonder if i am really not involved in that. i hope and pray i'm not, cause i don't really see color as being a disadvantage. Thanks for the great interview and chance to win!

This sounds like something I would love to read. When I lived in Arizona, we had all nationalities in our church. We had a Mexican girl marry a black man. Indian, Viet Namese and so many more. I saw God in every marriage too. Color has nothing to do with love.
I would love to win and review.

Thanks for all the comments! I should probably make a statement that Something Beautiful is only available in eformat. That's usually not a problem since almost everyone is reading E today.

Squiresj: I loved your comment that color has nothing to do with love. That's so true! Unfortunately, there are some racist individuals in my own family. It's so embarrassing. I guess that's part of living in the South.
