A Warm Welcome to Darlene Franklin

Darlene, it's good to have you here. Tell us, what is your favorite
scripture verse and why does it resound with you?

"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)

This verse voices the central truth that has sustained through bad times and good: God loves me, no matter what. When everything around me is falling apart, He still loves me. And I can trust Him.

I love that verse too! In your latest book, is there a story--an inspiration behind it that gave you the desire to write it?

A Ranger’s Trail is the fourth book in a series, so I already knew broad strokes for the story: a Texas-centered story from the 1870s. When my research uncovered the Mason County War (a range war/ethnic feud), I knew I had found a story that would provide all kinds of potential for conflict and drama. I never expected it to be so hard to write, as I had to live through my characters’ experiences.

Do you have a favorite character in your book that is dear to your heart?

I feel close to Leta Denning—her struggle to let go of the desire for revenge mirrored my own, although in a very different setting.

Now, a couple of fun questions:

If you could choose a favorite meal, where would it be and with whom would you want to share it?

I love a good steak. Can I have a grilled steak from a steakhouse and the marvelous dinner rolls from Denny’s? As for whom I want to share it with—if my grandkids would slow down their eating and be at the table longer than 5 minutes after the meal starts—I would stay with them.

Yum! Your answers are what mine very well could be. Where would you like to live permanently if you could have a choice? Why?

Wherever my son is . . .that’s why I moved to Oklahoma, and I’ve enjoyed the experience so far. I loved my years in Denver, but I’m at a different place now and I’m happy where God has placed me.

Please tell us where readers can stay in touch with you and where to purchase your book.
