with Sherry Kyle

Welcome to the Barn Door Book Loft, Sherry!
People talk about life before children— what was your life before writing?

I’m trying to remember life before writing . . . hmm. I had a variety of interesting jobs. I was a Preschool teacher, aid to a Speech Pathologist, Surgical Assistant to Oral Surgeons, and a Treatment Coordinator for an Orthodontist. I also took classes in Medical Transcription. Once my kids were born, I stayed home to take care of them. When they were little, I loved taking them to the library and it was then that I discovered I wanted to write.

What book have you recently enjoyed reading?
Fade to Blue by Julie Carobini. I really enjoyed reading about Suz and her struggles with being a single parent falling in love again. What a GREAT beach read. I enjoyed every page.

If you were a dessert, what would you be?
Chocolate . . . in ANY form! But since it’s summer, I’d be chocolate covered strawberries! Here’s how you make them. :) (I’m sure everyone knows how, but just in case . . .)

4 ounces Chocolate Chips

12 strawberries

Place chocolate chips in a glass bowl and microwave on high, 1 to 2 minutes, or until melted and very smooth, stopping to stir about every 20 seconds.
Line a plate with wax paper.
One at a time, dip strawberries into melted chocolate and place on the prepared plate. Refrigerate about 10 minutes to harden.

If you were to find a purple polka-dotted monster in your kitchen one morning, how would you respond?
I’d invite him to breakfast! I’d serve blueberry pancakes with whipped cream, and grape juice to help it slide down. Afterward, I’d offer to read Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak, Oh, wait a minute! He may roar terrible roars and gnash his teeth! Better stick with the pancakes and send him on his way.

Tell us about one of your favorite memories or moments in your life.
The day I married my college sweetheart. On July 9th we celebrate 23 years. It was the best decision I’ve ever made! :) This year we‘ll celebrate at Shadowbrook Restaurant, one of Capitola-by-the-Sea’s premier places to eat, thanks to my husband’s 6th grade class.
Check it out!

Happy anniversary to you both, Sherry! What is the Lord teaching you, or recently taught you?
Hebrews 10:23, “Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.” My family is going through a difficult situation right now and we’re holding tight to God’s promises and the hope we have in Him.

What's one of your dreaded things to do?
Chores, but they have to get done. Paying bills isn’t fun either. But I’m thankful for how God provides for our needs. Can you imagine if I said writing? No way! I look forward to my time in my little office—a shed in my backyard, complete with desk and love seat.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
I just finished writing my second girl’s book for Legacy Press entitled The Christian Girl’s Guide to Your New Room about planning, decorating, and organizing a girl’s bedroom. I also have another book contract with Abingdon Press for The Heart Stone, a contemporary novel about a heart-shaped diamond right that is worn by a single mother but was once offered to another. And now the widow is thinking about the man she let get away. This book is about two women’s journeys to find love and will be released in the spring of 2013.

Hey Friends!

It's early here in CA. I'm sipping coffee, yes you guessed it. I added a packet of hot chocolate to make it a mocha. LOL!

Hi Sherry! You might remember we met last year at the ACFW in Indy (if that wasn't you, it was your identical twin). I don't need to be entered in the drawing since I already have your wonderful book (in Kindle format, but I LOVE the cover). Happiest of anniversaries to you and your husband! Hope to see you me in St. Louis in late September? Blessings to you! JoAnn Durgin, Author of Awakening: A Christian Romance Novel
