with Kathleen Y'Barbo

Welcome to the Barn Door Book Loft, Kathleen!
People talk about life before children—what was your life before writing?

I honestly can’t remember outside of raising four children and traveling the world. I suppose it was full of reading, too, because there truly wasn’t a time in my life that I didn’t have books around. From early childhood I was a reader, and before that, I was read to. So there’s not much I can recall that doesn’t in some way have to do with books.

What book have you recently enjoyed reading?
I loved Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen. Currently I’m reading Carol Johnson’s Everlasting. It’s a fabulous Southern story and a former Oklahoma Book Award finalist that’s currently an amazing $2.99 on Kindle.

If you were a dessert, what would you be?
Crème brulee because I’m a little crusty on the outside but so sweet inside. LOL! And my recipe is to go to the Hyatt Town Lake in Austin and order room service. It comes with three fresh raspberries as a garnish and is absolutely amazing.

If you were to find a purple polka-dotted monster in your kitchen one morning, how would you respond?
“Someone left the Wii on last night!”

Tell us about one of your favorite memories or moments in your life.
My favorite recent memory is my elopement to Hawaii. Followers of my Facebook page can track the course of my whirlwind romance with a former high school friend that started in June 2010. We got married in October 2010 in Honolulu and had a fabulous 2 week honeymoon there. My husband is in the Air Force, so we stayed in the officers quarters on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base. So much history there, and such a beautiful place to begin our lives together. What a blessing!

What's one of your dreaded things to do?
I absolutely hate getting up early. I do it when I must, but try as I might, I’ve never quite managed to like it. It’s right up there with chomping into a raw onion.

What is the Lord teaching you, or recently taught you?
He’s teaching me that He is able to do far beyond my meager expectations. He’s so much bigger than my little pea brain can comprehend. I love it that He keeps showing me that. And that He doesn’t get tired of my inability to remember it.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
My next release comes in January 2012 with Daddy’s Little Matchmakers, the first in the To Love Again series set in fictional Vine Beach, Texas from Love Inspired. Three little girls decide their veterinarian dad is ready for a new wife and vow make it happen by placing an ad in the classifieds section of the local paper.
