with Lindi Peterson

Welcome to the Barn Door Book Loft, Lindi!
People talk about life before children—what was your life before writing?

Life before writing? I honestly can’t remember. I’ve always had stories in my head. I’ve been writing toward publication since 1998. I guess the biggest thing that has changed is my mornings before I go to the day job. I used to get up and get ready for work and leave, now I get up, write for an hour or so, then get ready for work.

What is your most difficult writing obstacle, and how do you overcome it?
Setting. It’s something I have to layer in after I’m done with my rough draft.

What book have you recently enjoyed reading?
Yesterday’s Tomorrow by Cathy West-amazing book, as well as When Sparrows Fall by Meg Moseley. Both novels are debut novels, and I can’t wait to see what these ladies have in store next. Missy Tippens also has an April release, A Family For Faith. A Love Inspired book that is truly inspiring.

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote?
The heroine, Allison. She doesn’t resemble me at all, but a part of me wishes I had her spiritual strength when I was her age.

If you were a dessert, what would you be?
Sorry—no recipe!--I can’t bake a thing! And my family will attest to that. My favorite dessert is vanilla ice cream or cookies. Any kind but peanut butter.

If you were to find a purple polka-dotted monster in your kitchen one morning, how would you respond?
Okay—first I would be praying he didn’t drink all my coffee—because then we’d have issues. Then I would tell him if he’s hungry to get in line. Even though my husband and I are empty nesters we have a feeding order in the morning for the animals—2 cats first, macaw second and dog third. I’d let the purple monster pick his food of choice! Then, after his belly is full I’d ask him would he like to go to work for me so I could stay home and write. :)

Tell us about one of your favorite memories or moments in your life.
My children’s weddings. I love love and I’m thrilled they have found their true love. 3 out of 4 are married and we have a wedding in September for the last one. The boy. Of course he’s the youngest, but he’s still the last.

What's one of your dreaded things to do?
House cleaning.

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?
The spiritual theme that keeps popping up in my book is unconditional love. And we can love well because we are loved well. I heard that during a Beth Moore Bible study and have never forgotten it.

What is the Lord teaching you, or recently taught you?
To proclaim the name of Jesus to all. To live in the blessings he’s given us, not to shy away from the life He would have for us.

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
Not sure—getting ready to send it to my editor this week. Praying!!

Great interview. I hate house cleaning too! I keep telling my family the first thing that I'll get if I ever make it big is a Merry Maid.
