with Shellie Neumeier

Guest post by Lisa Lickel.
Shellie Neumeier's debut novel for Young Adults, Driven, reached the best seller list in her category several times in electronic format. Driven, a novel about a high school girl's struggle against the darks forces inside and out of this world, was released by Risen Fiction on December 1 as a special deal for Kindle in time for Christmas. The print version recently launched March 1. As a member of American Christian Fiction Writers, Shellie's book was also entered for a Carol Award in two categories – Young Adult and Debut.

Shellie had her very own launch at her local independent book store, Fireside Books and Gifts in West Bend, WI, on March 5. I met her there and we talked for a bit.

"The book was based on my high school," Shellie said. Her classmates have been very curious about which characters they might represent, but of course, Shellie's not sharing anything about that. I asked how she prepared for this launch. One, she secured the book store date. Two, with her candid lack of cooking-related skills, she bought cookies: "I didn't bake so they'd be edible," and three, she used E-vite to send out electronic invitations to her launch day. "This was such a good tool," she said. "It reached folks not on FaceBook and Twitter, and it got my personal and church friends to talk it up if they were on the Internet."

How were sales? "Pretty good," Shellie said. "Steady for the first couple of hours." She paid attention to the recent talk about how to do a book launch on the ACFW main chat loop and thanks everyone for their great ideas.
