Gary Moore, Author of Hey Buddy, Shares the Story Behind the Story

A guest post by Jennifer Slattery.

Author, speaker, and percussionist, Gary Moore, has appeared on CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox. He has been featured in publications such as Entrepreneur Magazine, Selling Power Magazine, Sales and Marketing Management Magazine, Impromptu Magazine and Southwest Airlines’ Spirit Magazine, and was named the 1995 Chamber of Commerce Businessperson of the Year. In 1996, Gary was awarded the prestigious Sam Walton Leadership Award.

Today, he joins us on The Barn Door Book Loft to talk about his latest release, Hey Buddy, and share a bit of the story behind the story.

Your bio is quite impressive, Gary! How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing most of my life but have been writing as a profession for 6 years.

You have certainly accomplished a lot in a relatively short period of time. Tell us more about your latest release, Hey Buddy. Are you a Buddy Holly fan?

I am now! I do not totally understand how Buddy avoided my radar for 55 years, but I have great respect for the man and absolutely love his music.

I read on your site that you are a musician. What instrument do you play? What type of music do you most enjoy?

I am primarily a percussionist. I play in my church’s Praise & Worship band. My mucsical tastes change daily and range from Beethoven to Buddy Holly.

Where did you get the idea for this book?

Hey Buddy was inspired by John Mueller’s performance as Buddy Holly, and his song, Hey Buddy.

Do you have a surprising Buddy Holly fact you can share with our readers?

Buddy was not a typical rock & roller. He didn’t drink or believe in drugs and gave his first royalty check to his church to purchase new pews.

Wow, that is inspiriting! What is one thing you hope your readers will take away from this book?

I hope to introduce Buddy for the man he was, to a new generation of fans. I also hope to introduce john Mueller and his song, "Hey Buddy," to a larger audience.

Do you have any funny, odd or frustrating journey to publication stories you can share?

Trying to get published is similar to trying to be struck by lightning. The odds are against you, so you must remain optimistic and persistent. It may take years, but you cannot give up!

Great advice! Have you always loved to write or did this passion sneak up on you?

I have always enjoyed writing, but the love has turned into a driving desire. I write daily

When do you feel closest to God?

When I am deeply in prayer. I felt closest to God. When I held my grandson, Caleb, for the very first time, it was striking how close to God I felt. That was April 17, 2010.

What is your favorite Bible verse and why?

Jeremiah 29:11. Verification that God wants us to be happy and lead a fruitful life.

I like that verse, too! What a great reminder to keep our hearts centered on God, the giver of life! And clearly, God has blessed you abundantly! Thanks for joining us today, Gary.

I have been following Gary since his first book about his father "Playing With The Enemy". I loved his comment :Trying to get published is similar to trying to be struck by lightning. The odds are against you, so you must remain optimistic and persistent. It may take years, but you cannot give up! As a struggling writer this gives me some hope to one day be published. Thank you for the giveaway and chance to win. Sincerely, hermitmccormick@gmail.com
