with Andrea Boeshaar

Welcome to The Book Loft, Andrea!
What started you on your writing journey?

I’ve always loved to write, ever since I was a little girl. But when my sons were toddlers, I began reading secular romances. I remember thinking, “I can do this.” So I tried and tried and tried. Me and my electric Smith Corona typewriter. Then in 1991, I gave my heart to the Lord Jesus Christ. It rocked my world and suddenly I couldn’t write godless love stories. I needed to write tales that honored Christ. So I did. Again, I tried and tried and tried. I’m no stranger to the rejection letter. But then in 1992, God blessed me with a book contract. I’ve been writing – and getting published – ever since.

What distracts you from writing the easiest?
Phone calls from family members. I always feel like I have to “fix” their problems. But, honestly, when I don’t feel like writing, just about anything can – and does – distract me. It takes a lot of discipline to work through those feelings and produce and make deadlines.

What kind of books do you enjoy reading?
I love reading Christian romances, historical or contemporary. Some of my favorite authors are: Robin Lee Hatcher, Francine Rivers, Tracie Peterson, Cathy Marie Hake, Kathleen Y’Barbo, DiAnn Mills, and many more!

Which character in your new release most interested you while you wrote?
My character, “Captain Blackeyes” (aka Brian Sinclair) intrigued me because he’s a proverbial bad boy in Uncertain Heart (book 2). In this story, Unexpected Love, (book 3) he is a new believer, trying to solve problems the old way. It’s intriguing to me because I’ve been there and yet writing the character’s POV felt so foreign. But that’s the power of God’s love and mercy in a believer’s life.

If you were a style of music, what style would you be?
I would be a mix of Christian country, folk, and the oldies all rolled into one.

What is your strangest habit?
I think out loud a lot and my poor husband thinks I’m talking to him. “What? What did you say?” It’s hilarious!

Are there things you put off doing because you dread them?
Oh, yes. I’m a great procrastinator. But then I’ll feel a wave of courage wash over me and just dive in and get ‘em done.

What's your favorite meal with family and friends?
I just came home from dining with friends. We ate stuffed pizza at a restaurant called Edwardo’s Natural Pizza. It’s super deep dish pizza. Really great. But my comfort food/meal is baked chicken, rice, and peas. It’s kind of weird, but I actually crave that dinner sometimes.

Are there spiritual themes you like to write about?
I have a deep yearning to write about the love that Jesus Christ has for all of us. How He can take a poor, desperate sinner, like me, and turn her into a Christian author. I like to write about how Christ’s love can transform lives – like my husband’s. Daniel was a compulsive gambler and an alcoholic. We nearly lost our first home because of his addictions. But he reached out for the Lord, knowing there was a deep void in his life, and God saved his soul. Then God saved our marriage. Sure, it’s not perfect. We, like all couples, have issues. We’re still growing in grace. However, we have the Lord and God’s word. We have fellowship with other believers and all the rest of the blessings that come with being a Christian.

Share a verse or Scripture passage with us that is special to you.
Psalm 91, verses 7-12. It reads (in part), A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you…For He shall give His angels charge over you, to keep you in all your ways. In their hands they (the angels) shall bear you up, lest you dash your foot against a stone.
I prayed this Psalm while my son Brian was in first Kuwait and then Iraq. He’s told me of some “close calls” he had with IEDs (improvised explosive devices), but God kept him safe during his tours. (PRAISE BE TO GOD!)

When is your next book due out and can you tell us about it?
Book 4 in my series, Seasons of Redemption, is called Undaunted Faith. It’s about a young lady in Wisconsin, who takes a teaching position in the Arizona Territory in order to escape her father’s farm and do something more “important” and “meaningful.” However, she finds that she lived in luxury compared to her quarters in a boardinghouse in the dusty town of Silverstone. She also discovers that loving a person defies place and setting because love resides in one’s heart.

I remember reading several books by Mrs. Beoshaar many years ago but haven't seen any recent books in our library by her. I would love to win this book and eventually donate it to the library -- after all my friends have a chance at it first, of course.
